Scenics

The scenics are the things you use to create a "Scene"

These come in the form of buildings, trees people, cars etc...

I have used several scenic details on my layout:

I bought this Bulgy model and suitably altered it to look like a hen shed, just like in the stories! I put it in a suitable, broken down sort of position. These are standard Hornby Platforms, with fencing. I placed them on a corner and put some black card down, to represent the road.
Your best friend when making hills, is this, Modeling Rock, or Mod Roc. It's just gauze with plaster on it. Just dip it in water, put it over your formation and it dries rock hard in minutes! Hornby make quite a range of people sets. The pictured, Working people, seated people and town people. They are made of a sort of rubber which makes them highly durable.

Great things to use on your layout are:

Grass: Grass mat - Easy to use with not much mess

Roads: Black paper/card - Easy and effective

Hedges: Hornby hedges - Look good and are easy to apply

Trees: Hornby trees are OK but look a bit too round

Buildings: Hornby Buildings are good, there's a big range

I can't tell you much here. Have Fun and make mistakes, its more realistic that way! The best idea is to just go for it! It's your layout, so whatever you want, you put on! Remember if you still have any questions, don't be afraid to E-mail me!

If you cannot find a scenic product that you like, try the modeling links page for links to some good sites.
